Not So Fiction Anymore: ‘Hindi Medium’ Becomes A Reality In Delhi!
A wealthy Delhi businessman, Gaurav Goel was arrested by the Delhi Police in a case that seems like a copy of the plot of the Bollywood film ‘Hindi Medium’. Goel had his son admitted to one of the most prestigious schools of Delhi, Sanskriti School, under the quote for the Economically Weaker Section. He claimed that he was a worker at an MRI laboratory whereas the fact remains that he owns an MRI lab! He was able to produce documents mentioning his annual income less than Rs 67000 and Sanjay Camp, a slum area Chanakyapuri as his residence. All of this happened four years ago and all was going good under the hood in Goel family until recently.

Goel got a bit carried away with confidence, let’s put it that way. He tried to get his other son admitted under the sibling quota, whilst making a demand that they be shifted to the general category since their economic conditions got improved over time. Mr Goel leapt by heaps and bounds and mentioned that his new address was the swanky Safdarjung Enclave! All of this got the school authorities thinking who then went to the cops who then nabbed Goel. Goel has apparently travelled almost 20 countries and has a wholesale business of pulses, alongside the MRI lab.
Goel was arrested from his home at Jawahar Nagar, near Kamla Nagar and probe is being made regarding the whole case of forged documents and illegal activity. Meanwhile, Goel’s son has been removed from the school. While we do understand the law needs to take its own course, we can’t help but feel bad in this filmy drama-cum-reality of sorts where people are struggling to get good education for their kids in this rotten system. We really hope that the government listens to this story and tries to figure out how to solve the larger problem of sub-standard education in our country.
